Morning Math 44

Riddle:  What works only when it's fired?

Answer:  _ _ _ _ _ _ _

Directions:
Figure out the area of each rectangle.
Write the area beside the letter.
The letter of the rectangle with the smallest area is the first letter of the answer.  The second smallest area is the second letter of the word, and so on to the largest rectangle.

  • Rectangle O is 8 x 15
  • Rectangle T is 10 x 15
  • Rectangle A is 14 x 8
  • Rectangle E is 9 x 16
  • Rectangle K is 13 x 10
  • Rectangle R is 13 x 9
  • Rectangle C is 11 x 11

Morning Math 43

Draw the following Triangles:
  • Base is 5, Height is 8.
  • Base is 12, Height is 7
  • Base is 7.5, Height is 9.5

What are the Areas of each?

Bonus: (Worth 10 minutes PAT for the team who figures it out.) What is the perimeter of a right angle triangle that has a base of 3 and a height of 4?  You might want to introduce yourself to Pythagoras, an ancient Greek mathematician who figured out how to calculate the "mystery" side of the triangle.

Morning Math 42

Draw a figure for each of the following:

  • A figure that has the same total cm for the perimeter as the total cm2 for the area.
  • A figure with a perimeter of 22 cm and an area of 18 cm2.
  • A three sided figure with an area of 12 cm2.

Morning Math 41

Complete the Following:

Using your ruler, Draw two figures for each of the following areas.

  • 16 cm2
  • 35 cm2
  • 26 cm2
  • 42 m2

Morning Math 40

Copy and Complete the Following:

Which is the most expensive liquid?

  • Gasoline                   $0.83/ liter
  • Milk              $3.99/4000 mL
  • Starbucks Coffee   $4.35/59 cL
  • Coca-Cola                $1.25/7 dL
  • Krazy Glue              $2.88/2 mL

Morning Math 39

Copy and Complete the Following:
Mr. Grafton went shopping for treats for the Grade Sixes.  He was buying jellybeans for treat bags.  He found the following prices for jellybeans at three different stores.

  • Gourmet Candies $1.99/100g
  • Costco Jellybeans $15.99/kg
  • Walmart $8.59/500g

Help Mr. Grafton decide from which store to buy jellybeans.  Answer the following questions:

1.  In order to compare prices, what is the first thing that Mr. Grafton should do?

2.  What is the difference between the highest and lowest price?

3.  Show what Mr. Grafton did to find out.

Morning Math 38

Copy and Complete the Following
Use Cross Multiplication to figure out the following:

If Pistachio nuts cost    $6/200 g

then...

$6             =   $N
200g             1000g

6 x 1000  =  200 x N

6000        =  200N
200               200

           30  =  N

Therefore, the pistachio nuts cost $30/kg, or $30/1000g.

Which of the following is the best deal?
  • Peanuts        $4/100g
  • Almonds       $22/1 kg
  • Cashews $15/500mg

Morning Math 37

Copy and Complete the Following:
Rank the following items from least expensive to most expensive.

Bolts     $5/g
Nails     $5/kg
Pins       $ 5/mg

Bonus:
  • What is the cost of the Nails per gram?
  • What is the cost of the Pins per kilogram?
  • What is the cost of the Bolts per milligram?

  4. If 500 cm is equivalent to 5000 mm, cross out Fingers.
  5. If 2 dm is equivalent to 200 mm, cross out Evil Eye.
  6. If 10 mm is equivalent to 1 cm, cross out Hairy.
  7. If 1 m is equivalent to 1000 mm, cross out Sneaky.
  8. If 1 dm is equivalent to 100 cm, cross out Dumbo.
  9. If 60 cm is equivalent to 600 mm, cross out Baldy.
